Blaster Break: 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes

I'm a sucker for a retail blaster box deal. If I find one of those boxes with a "NOW 40% OFF" sticker, odds are I will buy it, regardless what it is.  That's what happened at Wal-Mart the other day. I happen to live in an area where there are several Wal-Marts and Targets within a rather short distance of one another, so it doesn't take much for me to drive around and see what blasters they might have gotten in stock each week.  Most times, in addition to the typical $19.99 boxes they have of the most recent stuff, they will have a few old boxes with one of those inviting stickers.
So here we have 7 packs plus two BONUS PACKS IN EVERY BOX (woohoo?). Check out that white writing on the side. Can't they just say 9 packs? I guess the two bonus packs is some sort of selling point. If they advertised two bonus packs with memorabilia cards in one or something that would be better. But they are seemingly just regular packs.  Nine packs for around a dollar a pack is a pretty good deal.  Plus it's a non-Topps product, so I was happy as it added some variety to my pack ripping.  No Topps monopoly in 2008!

The UD Baseball Heroes product is chock full of serial numbered parallels. In fact, there are too many serial numbered parallels.  Here is a list:
  • Emerald /300
  • Black /250
  • Beige /200
  • Red /175
  • Navy Blue /100
  • Brown /75
  • Sea Green /50
  • Light Blue /25
  • Purple /10
  • Charcoal
That kind of makes my head spin.  But it gets even worse better!  Check out this list of game used jerseys you might pull:
  • 142 Light Blue jerseys /200
  • 143 Black jerseys /125
  • 170 Red jerseys /100
  • 148 Navy Blue jerseys /50
  • 147 Emerald jerseys /25
  • 84 Charcoal jerseys
  • 6 Light Blue dual jerseys /200
  • 6 Black dual jerseys /125
  • 6 Navy Blue dual jerseys /50
  • 7 Emerald dual jerseys /25
  • 10 Light Blue triple jerseys /200
  • 6 Black triple jerseys /125
  • 5 Navy Blue triple jerseys /50
  • 6 Emerald triple jerseys /25
  • 4 Light Blue quad jerseys /200
  • 4 Black quad jerseys /125
  • 4 Navy Blue quad jerseys /50
  • 4 Emerald quad jerseys /25
I feel for anyone trying to complete this set. It must be super confusing to keep track of the colors and numbers and quads and triples and duals and lions and tigers and bears.  There are tons more parallel variations, but I didn't pull any anyway, so I am not going to list them. If you care you can find more info on this set here .

As for what I did pull, it was nothing to write home about.  The best card I pulled was a red parallel Andre Ethier 54/249.  I pulled a bunch of the numberless charcoal parallels (what's the point?), but nothing game used.  Also in the set are Yankee Stadium Legacy cards, as a tribute to the old Yankee Stadium.  Any of these (minus Phillies) are available for trade, and I have many more base cards and a few more charcoal cards for trade as well.  If you are looking for something from this set (I'd be shocked if someone is collecting this), just let me know.

  1. I'd be interested in the numbered Ethier, and I also saw something you listed as for trade. I'm shooting you an e-mail now.

It might come up from "Kemp Kershaw". That'd be me!

  2. I would be interested in any Mets and Yankees (and YSL's) as well as any of the other players I collect (list located on sidebar tab on my blog) in any color variations or base. I can surely find some Phillies stuff for you. Let me know.
