Here's a(nother) blog about baseball, more specifically baseball card collecting, the Phillies, Roy Halladay, and whatever else I care to write about. I am fairly sure the main focus of this blog will be baseball cards (at least in the off-season), since I collect all sorts of baseball cards, and I've never come across a pack or box I haven't wanted to buy, and subsequently rip open. While fun, this can get expensive; the cost of cardboard must be rising. Needless to say it is an addiction.
I don't have any expertise in card collecting (I did go to the The National a few months ago, plus one for that), other than my own experience. Here's a picture of a booth at The National:
It was a collector's heaven there. I saw some really cool stuff, like the Holy Grail T-206 Honus Wagner:
Many people there were clamoring to get the limited edition /999 Topps Strasburg rookie card, spending lots of time in line. They limited the giveaway to something like 250 people a day, and you had to have a certain number of Topps wrappers for redemption. Needless to say, there are a few up on eBay now, but the cost varies from a buy it now for 49.99, one for 99.99, and one for 144.99. You'd have to have pretty good faith in the doctors who performed his surgery for that price.
Only time will tell what will happen to the value of Strasburg's cards once he comes back for the 2012 season. Some say he will get better, some say worse. I saw the kid pitch the game he was hurt in at Citizen's Bank Park and I must say I have never seen a breaking ball break so much. He has a command of his pitches that few have ever had. I'm a fan.
I wound up getting a box of Topps Allen and Ginters 2010, along with some other cool loot from the National.
I was hoping for some bigger pulls, but the cards are really cool looking. I've since bought many, many more packs of this brand.
Anyway...
As for the title of this blog, for those who might not have caught it was taken from (my hero?) Mr. Halladay, who after clinching the 2010 NL East Title for the Phillies exclaimed: “It was fun, but it’s only gonna get funner,” Halladay said. “It’s a dream come true, and I’m looking forward to keeping it going.”
I look forward to him keeping it going, too.
Nice first post... I'm jealous... I've been in this hobby for over 30 years... and have never attended a National... glad you were able to attend.
ReplyDeleteLike Fuji, I've been collecting about 30 years and have never been to a National. Someday maybe...welcome to the blogosphere!!
