Well after further investigation maybe I didn't consider the appeal of these cards.
Ok, I get the Posey, Pujols, and Heyward, but the Pirates team card? Again, I know they are tough pulls, but I remain slightly baffled. Maybe as the season goes on the hype will die down, and therefore the price will go down. I would love to get my hands on some of these for my player collections, but not for seventy bucks.

So last night the Phillies beat the Cardinals again. The Cards seem to be struggling a bit, but they have had to face Halladay and Lee back to back. Things don't get much easier for them tonight when they face Oswalt. However, Oswalt isn't looking quite as sharp as he has been.Cliff Lee threw his second shutout in a row. He hasn't given up a run in 23 straight innings. Not too shabby. In fact, he has only given up one run in the past 33 innings. What's more, in his last two outings, Lee has given up eight hits and allowed two runners to advance past first base.
I'll spare you from the PhiLEEdelphia play on words.
and the man can hit the ball too!!
ReplyDeleteNot all of the black bordered cards go for that much. I picked up a Eric Hinske for cheap the other day. I was eying a Brandon Beachy RC (Braves), but even at $15.00 I didn't want to bite. Spending that $$ on ACP's Finest case break instead.
ReplyDeleteAs our resident Halladay expert, can you tell me if that is the first card to commemorate the NLDS no-hitter? I haven't really seen any other cards that note the event.
ReplyDeleteI too think the $$ are high on those, but if your building the black set, that is what you may have to go thru.
@dawg, yes he sure can. He is turning into a very good hitting pitcher. Part of the appeal of him preferring the NL/Phils was that he wanted to hit. @Colbey, I have seen some go for a lot less as well, but the Pirates team card for over $60? @deal, I believe this is the first card. I know there was one in the Heritage set, but that one related to the perfect game.
