Growing up, I was a pretty invested Flyers fan. I went to a bunch of games and followed the team's progress throughout the seasons. I even had a jersey of my favorite player at the time: #88 Eric Lindros. Lindros was really popular back in the early 90s in Philly.
When I was going through boxes of cards at a show recently, I came across one that made me stop and do a doubletake. This is what I found (sorry about the lack of scan skills):
Eric Lindros? Like, THE Eric Lindros? I looked a bit closer and yup, it was him. I had to turn over the card and get the scoop. I knew Lindros was a good athlete, but I had no idea he tried out for professional baseball--AND he has a baseball card.Huh, well what do you know. Lindros was 17 when he tried out with the Blue Jays and he was a power hitter who hit over .400 in high school. However, not surprisingly, Lindros opted to go to hockey since he was being "touted as the next Mario Lemieux."
Good choice, although it would've been fun to see him take batting practice. Regardless it's a pretty cool oddball card to add to my collection!
Added this card to my collection recently as well - I think it is a must for a Philly sports fan
ReplyDeleteLindros is expected to return to Philadelphia as part of the Alumni game during the Winter Classic.
