I went to a monthly card show yesterday and scored lots of stuff, all of which I will be posting on in the weeks to come. Of the "lots of stuff" I scored, one thing stands out because it was on my most wanted list from the time I started collecting Roy Halladay cards. It's simple, really. Shouldn't one have the "true" rookie card of their favorite player?
Now I do.
Here is is, in all its chrome glory. A 1997 Bowman Chrome Halladay rookie. I have the base version, but this is the "true" rookie in the eyes of collectors. It books between $15-$40...and no, I did not pay $35 for it. Not even close. I got maybe six or seven game used and auto cards, in addition to around 30 other Phillies cards for $40 flat. The dealer is super fair and a really nice guy who actually had boxes of Phillies ready for me to go through since he knows I collect them! Gotta love that.
So this card is now a centerpiece of my Halladay collection. Now I am looking to score the refractor (sells for around $70 on eBay), the international rookie card, and the rare international refractor (super rare and pricey).
Maybe at the National this August...
Congrats on knocking off a White Whale! That's a great looking card.
