Really Random: Blog Stats, The New Year

The blog has thrived in 2011.  I am now at over 35,000 page views, and well over 300 posts.  I don't know if those numbers really even matter, but it must mean I am doing something right if people are reading stuff I post.  Many of you are reflecting back on your collecting goals for the year and how you did, etc.  I didn't really have any collecting goals going into 2011, but I have obtained some great cards and made some epic trades.  As for 2012, well, I don't know what it will hold.  I have been thinking of retiring a few player collections and starting a few new ones, just to keep variety.  I haven't made any decisions yet and probably won't anytime soon, if I am being honest with myself.  For now I continue to grab all the Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Hunter Pence, and Stephen Strasburg cards I can, with Roy being the focus, of course.

I struggle with the concept of New Year's Eve, especially as I get older.  As someone who prefers to live in the present, I find that the whole spectacle of the night lends itself to forcing one to look to the past and imagine the future.  I prefer to live in the here and now; I do better that way.  I don't knock those who do, but I do not make resolutions. They just do not work for me.  I find that with resolutions you put undue pressure on yourself to succeed, and then any deviation from success is a big letdown.  Not that I am trying to be a downer on the occasion, but it's just how I think.  I still will get together with friends and have a good time, but I guess it isn't as big a deal to me as some.

Here are two of my favorite New Year's quotes:

New Year's eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted; and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights. ~Hamilton Wright Mabie

It is difficult to live in the present, ridiculous to live in the future, and impossible to live in the past. Nothing is as far away as one minute ago.
Jim Bishop

Thanks for reading the blog. I wish each of you a safe and fun New Year's Eve, and many good hits in 2012.

  1. Happy New Year Jules, hope you have a GReat night. We will be spending part of the evening playing cards and other games with my sister-in-law and a few other friends. I'm more excited other my up-coming completion of my 44th trip around the sun on Tuesday!
