A rare pair, right? Well, it's amazing the things you come across while surfing the internet. I don't know if this is new to all of you, but it's very new to me. Did you know that you can view over 2,100 vintage baseball cards on the Library of Congress website? These cards are from the Benjamin K. Edwards collection. The collection includes digitized images of 2,100 early baseball cards dating from 1887 to 1914.
Here is a link to the collection.
The thing that struck me first was how the cards are in such great condition. They are extremely old and fragile, but they were kept very well. You can click on the cards and zoom in to see what I am talking about. Here's an example. Doesn't this design look familiar?
Or maybe this looks more familar:
This guy's name is Jack Glasscock. No, I did not make that up. You can see more Jack Glasscock cards here. He was a Hoosier.
Or maybe you want to see some original Kimball Champions:
I just wanted to share that with you guys. Like I said, I am not sure it is new to you but it is the first time I've seen it. Another cool thing about the site is that you can click on each card and it gives you some details about it too. You can also search the whole collection for all your favorite vintage favorites.
Thanks Library of Congress!
Our school district just bought us an iPad. When browsing the app store they have one that includes scans of all the cards that you can browse. Pretty cool to look through.
ReplyDeleteMatt beat me to it - there's an app for that. What a great way to kill time while you're waiting in line somewhere!
ReplyDeleteWhat an outstanding collection. The part I don't like about it is how badly I want them all! Weird that they don't have a T206 Honus Wagner though, seeing as how it is pretty much the most valuable baseball card in existence.
