Seeing Red(s) and Other Teams, Too

While everyone is posting on the Heritage they busted, I figured I'd post about my totally exciting Opening Day cards I got from a retail box. As has become customary for me, I purchase one, and only one, box of Opening Day each season.  The disappointment that always seems to follow along with the "why, why, WHY did you buy this box again" voice in my head make for some fun pack ripping.  I don't know what I'm hoping to pull, considering there really isn't anything to pull except for an insert here and there.

I figured I'd present the Opening Day cards I got in the box by team...and share with you the way that Topps dispersed the teams in this particular retail box.  So without further ado, I present to you some of the cards contained in the 2012 Opening Day retail box I busted:

I pulled 5 Cincinnati Reds cards, including the #ed Stubbs below.
Joey Votto goes into the player collection binder.  Even though I've suspended collecting cards of him, I still go for new cards and inserts from all years.  Just sayin'.
Keeping with the celebration theme that Topps seems to have embraced this year, I pulled another Votto.  For those keeping score that is two Stubbs, two Vottos, from the same box.
And finally Scott Rolen, a former Phillie who is probably close to the end of his career.
I got four Red Sox in the box, including the Ellsbury insert that is 3-D trippy-ish.
This is the only Brewers card I received in the box.  Even thought it is a Nyjer Morgan card, Ryan Braun seems to stand out as well.  Is Braun jumping suspiciously high--almost superhuman-like?  Nah, it's just me. (Relax, I'm kidding folks).
Two Cubs.  I love Soto's catcher's gear, so I chose to show this card. As a long time catcher I appreciate good equipment.  That stuff is money well spent.  If you've ever gotten hit in the mask with a foul ball, you know what I'm talking about.
 Two Astros.  Yawn.
Two A's.  Bigger yawn.

I also pulled one New York Mets card.  I wonder if this guy will have good stats this year?  The Mets sure are going to need all the help they can get.
More teams tomorrow!

  1. It's funny how you can spot a photoshop job a mile away. I was unfamiliar with Josh Reddick (unfortunate surname) until his card caused me to see if my inclination was correct. I've checked it out, and he's been with the Red Sox his entire Major League career. I didn't even know who he was, yet I could easily tell that his card was altered.

  2. I pulled a ton of Reds out of my Opening Day blaster, too.

  3. Wow, Rolen really looks old in that photo. Because of when he left the Phillies and the plethora of insert cards of him during his first few years with the team, I still picture him as the fresh-faced kid with a whole career ahead of him. It's hard to believe that this will be his 16th season in the big leagues. Even harder still to believe: he still played more years and games with the Phillies than any other club.
