Prospects that are Not Bryce Harper

“Tonight’s the night.  And it’s going to happen again and again.  Has to happen.  Nice night.”   If anyone gets that reference you're cool in my book because you are a true fan.

Anyway, I digress.

Tonight is the night.  Bryce Harper night in LA.  I've been pretty critical of this kid but I am willing to give him a chance, I guess.  Not that me being willing to give him a chance matters one iota in the grands scheme of the world, but hey, this is my blog.  Maybe he has grown up from his 20 days in AAA ball, and full year in the minors.  But for the love of baseball, I hope to God that Haper doesn't do something douchey tonight, like wear his eye black a dumb way or something. I doubt that will happen because others in the clubhouse won't allow it, but Harper never ceases to amaze.  I don't expect too much out of the kid, and that is understandable.  The word on the street is that he is only up in the big show until Ryan Zimmerman gets back.  Not so secretly, though, the Nationals are hoping Harper produces for them and stays in the lineup for good.  Xavier Nady and Roger Bernadina had been platooning in left field.  If I were them I'd feel pretty bad that a 19 year old came in and took my position.  Such is baseball, though.

But this post isn't showing off Harper cards.  It is showing other prospect cards I got at the Chantilly show.  Let's have a look, shall we?
I got this card for the Joe Savery part of it.  Savery was the 19th pick in the 2007 draft, and he went to Rice University.  He's appeared in relief eight times for the Phillies in 2011 and 2011, and he has an era of 1.08.  Not bad for a young kid.
Oh, what might have been.  Both Colvin and Cosart have gone south to play for the In-the-NL-for-now Houston Astros.
Biddle is still on the Phillies prospect list, and I am slowly collecting cards of him.  I also want to start collecting another prospect named Larry Greene. He is a Ryan Howard of the future kind of guy.  As for Singleton?  You guessed it, Houston.

One more thing that makes Harper's debut tonight even more special: Stephen Strasburg is on the mound. It seems for the Nats that the future is now.
