Duplicity, Triplicity, and Me

Happy New Year all!

Today I found out that as a season ticket holder of the Orioles--I did mention I have season tickets next season on the blog, didn't I?  Well if not consider it mentioned.  Anyway, as a season ticket holder I get a free ticket to Orioles FanFest on January 19th.  It sounds like a really fun event, with a question and answer session, an opportunity for autographs, and just generally a day to be around the game and other like-minded baseball fans.  You can bet I will have pictures to share with you all.

This post isn't just about that, though.  If you've read the blog for awhile, you might remember when I did this post in 2010 "confessing" that I was a Nats watcher and sort of fan.  Back in May I posted on how the Nats were making things difficult for me, because they caught up to the Phillies and surpassed them in the NL East standings.

That said, the reality has now hit me that I am a fan of three MLB teams.

Today after having learned about my free ticket to the O's event, I thought about how I might appear to be what some would call a bandwagon type of fan.  This got me questioning whether this is true or not. Am I? Are there unwritten rules about who you can and cannot root for?  I've pondered the question on this blog a few times, but clearly it is still at the forefront of my mind.

Maybe when it comes to rivalries like the Yankees and Red Sox those unwritten rules are more clear.  But what about with other teams?  The lines just aren't that clear to me.

It's not like the O's and Phillies are huge rivals (although there was that World Series), but for some reason I still feel a little weird about it.  I went to many, many O's games last season, mainly because it is geographically convenient for me to do so.  Somewhere along the line--and several jerseys and t-shirts later, I became a fan.  Also, and I've said this before--Camden Yards is the best place to watch a baseball game, period.

I just love baseball.  Phillies, O's, Nats.  In that order.

The Phillies will always be number one, but there is plenty of fandom to go around.  Funny how writing on a blog can be therapeutic sometimes.

  1. I seem to root for the Braves as my NL team, probably because the Tigers were so bad during the 1990s, no shame in loving baseball

  2. I guess we can let you be an Orioles fan as long as you promise to not root for the Pirates, A's, or Yankees. See you at Fanfest (I'll be the one wearing and Orioles hat, haha!)

    1. Thanks, Ryan! No worries...I dislike the Pirates, A's, and Yanks. I'll be the one at Fanfest wearing the O's jersey. I should be easy to pick out! :-)
