In this Post I Guess the Topps 60 Greatest Cards of all Time Top Ten, #s 10-5...

...and see how bad I fail.

I need to do better on keeping things "funner here," so let's have some fun!

Inspired by Night Owl Cards (great blog, read it), version of the top 60 greatest cards of all-time, I decided to take a crack at guessing the top ten cards out of the 100 that Topps chose as candidates in their contest. If you haven't yet voted in the contest, you can do so here.

You can vote once per day, so says Topps. Here are more details in case you haven't had a chance to check it out:

Topps says:

To celebrate our upcoming 60th Anniversary we would like Topps collectors to vote on our Top 60 cards of all time! We have pre-selected the 100 best cards we've ever produced. Scroll through the cards, select your top ten, and vote! On 12/18 we'll begin to announce winning cards daily starting at #60, we will countdown to #1 on 2/15 culminating with the launch of 2011 Topps Baseball.

The top 60 cards voted on by fans will then be inserted into Topps Series 1 Baseball cards to celebrate our 60th Anniversary.

Can you imagine pulling one of these cards out of a Series 1 rack pack? How awesome would that be? Well here they are, my picks for numbers 10-5.

10. 1980 Ricky Henderson rookie

9. 1986 Mark McGwire USA rookie. I bought this for $100 back in the day.

8.  1963 Pete Rose floating head rookie

7.  1968 Nolan Ryan rookie

6. 1969 Mr. October rookie

5. 1982 Ironman Cal Ripken rookie
My philosphy in choosing these cards is this: I think that people will vote with the accomplishments of the players in mind, not necessarily the aesthetics of the cards. For example, the Pete Rose floating head card is pretty darn ugly, but it is the rookie card of the all time hits leader, therefore making it top ten worthy.

There are also some cards on the list that are iconic, and very important to the hobby, so they will be included as well.  You'll be seeing some of those in my top five.

I'll be doing my top five in a post to come soon.  I am thinking of doing some kind of contest with this, so stay tuned!

I'd be curious to know what others think, so feel free to leave your #s 10-5 guesses in the comments, and/or let me know what you think about my choices.
