The Great Goodwin Chase

I have officially fallen in love with the 2009 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions set.  It's my dollar store's fault, since they had the darn packs for a buck. I bought eighteen packs yesterday--all they had left-- (4 cards/pack, with one mini), pulled all of the Goodwins I already had at home, and printed the checklist.  I've never been one to collect sets, but this is one I have decided I am going to chase.

For some parts of the set it is a small task, considering there is a base of only 150 cards which are not too hard to find. Even most of the "base" minis are easy to find. But what are hard to find are the black border minis, black border foil minis with Gypsy Queen backs, black border foil minis with Magician backs, entomology cards, game used cards, other inserts, and on card autos, along with the short prints and super short prints (I actually pulled a Roy Halladay SSP in a dollar store pack).  There are 20 SSPs, and I have already pulled 2.

Win!

Anyway, the point of this post is to let anyone who is interested in trading know that I am chasing the 2009 Goodwin set.  Of course I am still collecting my PCs, but Goodwin is also coming into my 2011 and beyond collecting goals.  I'll have card numbers posted of the base cards I still need hopefully this weekend.  If it's a short print or other oddball card, assume I need it (because I probably do).

Here are some examples of how awesome these cards are:

If anyone has any Goodwins to trade, please contact me and we will see what we can work out. I have a few trades in the works right now, so to everyone I owe an email to, I'll get to you soon.

One more thing, thanks to The Card Investor for the 1997 Select set I received as part of the Great Card Set giveaway. Great set!

  1. Let me know what base cards you still need and I'll see what I've got to help you out. I've got a bunch of new Halladay cards for you as well.

  2. I love this set too... I haven't busted any packs, but I've bought a ton of the Goodwin autos... love that they're on-card.

  3. Ah, so you're the one who got my 1997 Select set. I had fun putting that together. You will notice that the last 50 cards in the set look different. That is because that was an uncorrected error when they did the high numbered series. Wherein the 50 high-numbered cards are done in the Select Company fashion, the first 150 low-card set had included Select Company cards as a Parallel set. It's a handsome looking set which started the Tools of the Trade insert set, although at the time it more resembled the more recent Passing the Torch inserts.

On another note, I did open a few packs of 2009 Goodwin just for fun and am willing to trade most of what I pulled.
