This Series Against the Blue Jays Really Brings Me Back...

...to dark, dark places.  The year was 1993, it was game 6 of the World Series. Blue Jays vs. Phillies.  Mitch Williams (aka Wild Thing) was brought in to try to close out the game in the bottom of the 9th and force a game 7.  The Phillies had come from behind by scoring 5 runs in the top of the 7th to take the lead.  Joe Carter had other plans, with two runners on base.
I was sitting with my dad in the living room on the edge of my seat, praying that Williams would make it through the inning.  Philadelphia was counting on him.  Then jaws dropped and tears flowed.

Mitch's thoughts on the homer:

"I'm not going to go home and commit suicide...I wish I hadn't thrown it down and in to Carter. I was trying to keep the ball away from him. It was a mistake...It ain't comin' back...I can't replay it and win it...I can't change this one, much as I'd like to, if only because my teammates busted their butts. I let 'em down...But don't expect me to curl up and hide from people because I gave up a home run in the World Series. Life's a bitch. I could be digging ditches. I'm not."
—Mitch Williams on his feelings about surrendering the home run to Joe Carter
Now, WHY would I have this card in my collection? I chose the Blue Jays in Carboard Collection's Chrome break with the hopes of scoring some nice shiny Halladay cards.  I made out well in that arena, but I also got the rest of the Jays cards too, including this nightmarish one!

I don't blame Colbey for pulling this card from one of the packs...but seeing as he's a Braves fan...hmmm.  Was it really pulled from one of the packs, or his collection???!!!  I kid, I kid.

Fast forward to the present day, the game today against the Blue Jays was crazy.  Fists were almost flying, and jerseys came off in scuffles.  Things weren't going well for the Jays.  Two people were tossed from the Jays: first it was the pitcher, Jon Rauch, and next the manager John Farrell .  Apparently if your name was "John" it was not a good day for you.  There were several close calls in this game that could have gone either way.  You should watch the video by clicking the link above, it is worth it.

Mad props to Jose Bautista for hitting his second homer of the series.  This man doesn't just clear the fence, he destroys it.  What a great player. He is fun to watch, but moreso when he isn't facing your team's pitcher.

Luckily the Phillies got the win and Roy Halladay was victorious in his first trip back to Toronto since becoming a Phillie.  The fans gave him a very warm reception; over a minute and a half of a standing ovation when he took the mound.  Much classier than their pitcher.
