Today my blog will be disguised in a movie card collecting theme. One of my top three favorite movies of all time is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory--the original. So when the remake version with creepy Johnny Depp came out I was skeptical as to whether or not it would be good. I think it was pretty good, but that's not the point here.
Let's talk movie trading cards! Yup, when the movie came out I bought several packs of cards, and even a few on eBay. Here are some that I pulled.
How cool is this? Authentic Prop piece cards. The two above were from some of the candy bars that were used in the movie. This one I bought on eBay. It's a Jordan Fry (on card!) auto. Jordan played the character "Mike Teavee" in the remake. I love how the handwriting shows his youth. You can just tell he is young by the way he writes.
Here's an example of a base card, depicting a scene from the movie.
An Oompa Loompa refractor!
And finally a scratch and sniff card from the set. You can tell that yes, I actually scratched it, and yes, it smells like marshmallows.
Can you imagine if they had scratch and sniff baseball cards? No, me either. That could get pretty gross.
So here's post one of two featuring the Wonka cards. I don't actively collect any other movie or tv or celebrity cards, but these were fun to pick up a few years back.
I have a "mini-master set" of these cards - the base set and inserts. Plus a few choice prop and costume cards. I wish I had held on to the AnnaSophia Robb autograph card I had, because that thing is worth a fortune now. I guess I got some good money for it when I sold, though.
ReplyDeleteNow that you've shown us a little treat, what's Halloween without a little trick?
ReplyDeleteI'm so stealing this idea, cause you can't get in without a ticket:

Thanks for a neat post.
I prefer the original movie with Gene Wilder but those look like fun cards.
