Of Course They're Real People. They're Oompa Loompas.

Here are some base cards from the Wonka cards I have.  I was happy to find out from the comments and emails I received from the first post that many of you collect cards other than sports cards, and some of you collect these!  One thing I do want to clear up, however, is that in my opinion this movie (the 2005 version) really is no match for the brilliance of Gene Wilder's original version in 1971.  This one was entertaining, and since I am such a big fan of the original I had to watch it if only to check out the similarities and differences.

This one just happened to have fun trading cards involved, so of course I'm featuring them here, along with some of my favorite quotes from the movie.

Willy Wonka: Good morning, starshine... the earth says hello!
Mike Teavee: Why is everything here completely pointless?
Charlie Bucket: Candy doesn't have to have a point. That's why it's candy.
Willy Wonka: [looking at silver hair] I realized in that moment, "I must find a heir".
Dr. Wonka: [knowing his son wants to be a chocolatier] Candy is a waste of time. No son of mine is going to be a chocolatier.
Little Willy Wonka: Then I'll run away! To Switzerland! Bavaria! The candy capitals of the world!
Dr. Wonka: Go ahead. But I won't be here when you come back.
Willy Wonka: Little girl? Don't touch that squirrel's nuts! It'll make him crazy!
Veruca Salt: [outside the Chocolate Factory] Daddy, I want to go in.
Mr. Salt: It's 9:59, sweetheart.
Veruca Salt: Make time go faster.
Willy Wonka: Do you like my meadow? Try some of my grass! Please have a blade, please do, it's so delectable and so darn good looking!
Charlie Bucket: You can eat the grass?
Willy Wonka: Of course you can! Everything in this room is eatable, even *I'm* eatable! But that is called "cannibalism," my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies.
Willy Wonka: Uh, you really shouldn't mumble, because I can't understand a word you're saying.
Welcome Puppets: Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka, the amazing chocolatier weeeeee / Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka, everybody give a cheer / He's modest, clever, and so smart, he barely can restrain it / With so much generosity, there is no way to contain it, to contain it, to contain... to contain... to contain... Hooray! / Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka, he's the one that you're about to meet / Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka, he's the genius who just can't be beat / The magician and the chocolate whiz / The best darn guy who ever lived / Willy Wonka, here he is!

Yup, it's the off season!  Maybe I will feature my New Kids on the Block trading cards some day soon!  But on second thought, I DO want to keep my followers and readers, so maybe not, ha ha.

  1. An elevator can only go up and down, but a Wonkavator goes sideways and slantways and longways and backways and frontways and squareways and any other ways that you can think of...

  2. Mumbler!

I just watched the Depp Chocolate Factory movie last week. It's good, but can't match the original. Wilder kind of freaked me out as a kid.

  4. I think I already mentioned how great these movies are. The old version just had a 40th anniversary DVD/Blu-Ray release that I may need to get my hands on.
