Who has played for the most MLB teams in their career?
If you guessed Arthur Rhodes, you'd be absolutley wrong! But coming across this second year card of him as an Oriole got me thinking how many teams he's suited up for. It seems each time I see him he is in a different uniform.
Alas, I turned to baseball-reference.com and found this:
Rhodes has played for the Orioles, Mariners, A's, Indians, Phillies, Mariners (again), Marlins, Reds, Rangers, and Cardinals. If you're keeping count that is 9 teams spanning from 1991 to the present day. Dude must always have a bag packed for sure.
Rhodes' travels pale in comparison to others, though. Baseball-reference.com comes through again with this list (of which I am only posting partially):
Interesting to see that two current players, Octavio Dotel, and Matt Stairs, are tied with Mike Morgan and Ron Villone for first place, having been with 12 teams.
Dotel's numbers look like this:
A closer look reveals that he only deviated twice from numbers in the 20's, with 41 and 35.
Matt Stairs' numbers look like this:
He went from 3 to 59 in one year. I wonder what prompted that? Stairs is the only position player (non-pitcher) to make the top of the list. He also hit an amazing homer in the postseason for the Phillies.
Ron Vallone's numbers look like this:
Lots of number deviation there.
And finally, Mike Morgan's numbers:
Not sure why this stuff fascinates me, but it does. I bet many of the numbers above have a story tied to them. Oh well, just a little diversion as I finish up stuff in my office on this rainy Tuesday.
Too funny.
ReplyDeleteI got interested in the same thing a couple of weeks ago. It prompted me to attempt The Matt Stairs Project
Lol, great minds think alike! I missed your post but just read it and it's awesome!
