I've mentioned before how much I enjoy the cards that resemble credit cards. When I go to the National, and inevitably dig through the vast dime boxes, I am definitely going to be looking for these cards. I am starting to formulate a plan for the show, as I have been reading lots of tips and tricks as to what tactics are best while you're there.
Donruss Studio Stars cards are sweet. These are some that I picked up in the past few months.
Kearns now plays for the Miami Marlins, who, behind the arm of Heath Bell, blew a 4 run lead last night, at home versus the Cardinals. To say Bell is struggling would be a big understatement. Bell now has five blown saves this season. Ouch.Juan Gonzalez fun facts: He had 434 homers in his 17 year career. He also had 1,273 strikeouts.
In 2001, Gonzalez astonished many when he hit 57 home runs, his personal best for one season and almost twice as many as he hit in any other season. The total is the third most in National League history for a left-handed batter (behind Barry Bonds's record 73, which also came in 2001, and Ryan Howard, who hit 58 in 2006). Think what you will about those numbers, folks.
I hate that the steroid era taints every stat from that time. Even if the players weren't publicly linked to steroids, it seems that I cannot help but think, "what if." Skepticism will forever run rampant.
I'm a big fan of these as well. Like you, I keep a special lookout for these in dime boxes, they have popped up every once in a while.
ReplyDeleteYou used to be able to find cheap boxes of '02 Studio, but I haven't seen any in awhile. I've always wanted to feature those in one of my group breaks because like you I too LOVE the credit card gimmick.
ReplyDeleteDidn't CLASSIC also do a series of baseball players. I seem to remember having a Frank Thomas. I will have to go look through my boxes.
