The Phillies dropped their fourth game in a row today to the lowly Miami Marlins. The team cannot win with pitchers such as Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee on the mound. There is a clear problem, here. The Phillies traded Jim Thome to the Orioles for two A-level prospects: pitcher Kyle Simon, and catcher Gabriel Lino.
Word is that Simon is the 18th best prospect in the organization, and Lino is the 20th. I was hoping that we would get an MLB ready bullpen pitcher, but I guess you take what you can get for a 42 year old future hall of famer who is prone to injuries and cannot play the field any longer.
I did an eBay search for Gabriel Lino and it returned zero hits. It defaults to Gabriel Line and the first image is that of men's bikini underwear. Hmmm.
A search for Kyle Simon refreshed my memory of who he is.
I pulled his card and featured it here on the blog a bit ago. He rocks the 80's 'stache awesomely with the best of them.
I think Shane Victorino is next. The team called up outfielder Jason Pridie from AAA Lehigh Valley to take Thome's roster spot. They have enough outfield help, so I am not sure what to think about the move other than it might mean someone else is about to get the boot.
Being ten games out isn't exactly a death sentence for the season, but it's too late to say it's still early.
