I Don't Blog for a Few Days And...

Ichiro is a Yankee, singles in his first at bat as a Yankee at Safeco Field, and then steals second base?

Chase Utley and Ryan Howard homer back to back?

The Phillies have back to back comeback wins at home?

Ryan Dempster might be going to the Braves?

The Phillies and Cole Hamels are close(ish) to coming to a long term deal?

Penn State is actually going to play football this year?

Interesting stuff, but nothing mind blowing, except maybe the Penn State thing.  Regardless on where you stand on the NCAA sanctions, the Joe Paterno statue, his culpability, etc., can you really picture people getting hyped up and cheering for the PSU football team this year, and can you feel good about it?  I can't. Think about it.  Cheerleaders, rowdy fans, the band playing, the team running out and getting fired up for battle.  Good times all around, in a place where the wounds are still open.  I just cannot feel good about it and I cannot imagine how anyone can.  I don't mean to judge, these are just my opinions.

I think that if PSU didn't play this year then they could have come back next year and started fresh.  Had they imposed their own sanctions it might have been easier to swallow, and maybe the NCAA wouldn't have come down as hard as they did.  The school could have sent a message to everyone around the country by doing the right thing and shutting down for a year.  Instead, I think every PSU game will be a spectacle that will keep opening the wound.  I understand that the individuals who are there now should not have to suffer, but that is the unfortunate result of poor decisions made by so called leaders.  Just my two cents.

  1. I'm still waiting for Dempster to come to Atlanta. Don't care about the rest of the stuff...esp. the last place Phillies! (:
