At the show there will be several opportunities to redeem wrappers for special cards from the major companies. The only box I have decided on opening for sure is the Allen and Ginter product, but based upon redemption opportunities it might help me narrow down other boxes I want to open.
For example, Topps.
Topps has two redemption programs scheduled for the 2012 National. The first is a wrapper redemption for Gypsy Queen mini cards. Collectors can get one of the nine exclusive cards by opening three 2012 Topps or Bowman packs at the Topps booth. Both MLB and NFL packs qualify.
This to me seems like a no brainer. Buy a few packs of cards and get an exclusive card. I can almost guarantee I will participate in this redemption program.
Topps has also produced an exclusive set of 25 numbered 2012 Bowman Platinum Blue Foil parallels. The only way to get these is to open a box of 2012 Bowman Platinum Baseball at the Topps booth.
Now this is another tempting redemption opportunity. I am not sure how much a box of 2012 Platinum will be, but I do know I usually really like those cards. This just might be another box I purchase.
I'm toying with the idea of buying a box of Series 2, but with all the higher end products that might tempt me I am not sure I'll be doing that. Since I am not collecting the set I will be left with a ton of commons and probably a crappy patch card or two.
I can't wait to see what other opportunities there are at the show.
