Think back to a time when you bought a hobby box, or a blaster, or even a pack of cards and you pulled cards that were hits, but they weren't really the best cards in the pack or box. That was my experience with this box of 2012 Bowman Platinum.
Why this box? Well, this was the first box I purchased at the National. Buy a box of 2012 Bowman Platinum for $119, get a special set of 25 cards numbered to /499. They were giving out 100 sets per day, so if you weren't quick to get your box and get in line you weren't going to get your set. I waited about an hour to get mine. It was quite worth it. I will show you guys those cards in a later post.
So yes, as I said, the hits weren't the best cards. That is why I am starting with them.
I pulled a Mikie Mahtook auto, and a Francisco Martinez jersey/auto card. Neither of these wowed me, but they are nice looking cards.I pulled a die-cut Freddie Freeman and Ivan Nova, along with a Matt Harvey refractor.
But here were the best pulls of the box, in my opinion.
Starling Marte, Bryce Brentz, and the new stud for the Orioles, Manny Machado. Machado has lived up to the hype, and in some ways has surpassed it. These cards are good, but still not the best. These guys are the best. I pulled the trifecta of big name rookies: Harper, Darvish, and Cespedes. I was really happy to get each of these cards in the same box!
So, I am headed out of town for a few days for vacation, so I won't be blogging again until Friday--unless somehow I get inspired while sitting on the beach or something of that nature. Truth be told, I need to try to get away from technology and just chill out un-wired for a few days. The odds of that actually happening are slim, but I am going to try. See you all on Friday!
