So You're Telling Me...

Who remembers this scene from Dumb & Dumber?
It's an all time classic, where the woman tells Jimmy Carrey's character (name escapes me) that there is a one in a million chance she'd date him, or something to that effect.  He replies with: "So you're telling me there's a chance..."

It's funny stuff.  But this phrase also easily translates into sports and for the purposes of this post, it translates into playoff races.  As long as a team is mathematically capable of making the playoffs, we cannot write them off, right?

How about the Phillies?  Well, they lost today.  They also lost yesterday.  This doesn't help their cause much, because they are falling deeper and deeper into the numerically incapable of making the playoffs abyss.

Coolstandings.com, a site that shows statistics, has the Phillies at a 0.2 chance to get a wild card playoff spot.

So...you're telling me there's a chance!

Volcanoes would have to erupt, mountains would have to move, and miracles would have to occur, but the Phillies are not mathematically eliminated.  Stranger things have happened, and until that chart says 0.0, I'll continue to hold out hope.

  1. Lloyd Christmas is still on your side. It's a shame that the Phils didn't get healthy earlier in the year, or the WC race would be a lot more interesting with them fully involved...
