So Roy Halladay Pitches Tomorrow

Tomorrow is blog hero Roy Halladay's first start of the season. In many ways this might be one of the most important starts of his career.

Why?

Roy had a down year last year, and a mediocre spring training culminating in an illness that saw him lose ten pounds, and some velocity on his pitches.  Many in the Phillies' circles believe that Roy is a big key to success or failure this season.  Come out strong tomorrow and Phillies fans breathe a collective sigh of relief (until his next start of course), or come out flat and the "season over" tweets and blog posts start.  An average performance will probably favor the latter sentiment by many fans and bloggers.

Regardless of how he does, Roy remains the focus of my collection, my favorite player, and the inspiration for the name of this blog.

Did you know that Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game and a no hitter (in the post-season) in the same season?  Of course you did.

And unless you are living under a rock you know that Yu Darvish came one out away from pitching a perfect game against the Astros in his first start of the season tonight.  That got me thinking of a new collecting idea, and maybe something I will pursue at the National in August.

I was thinking of trying to collect a card of all of the pitchers to ever lose a perfect game in the 9th inning (not no-hitter, too many) and the player to break up their perfecto.  To Google I go!
