Since I couldn't find a blaster of Bowman, and I didn't want to buy packs at $3.00 a pop, I decided that spending $79 bucks would be a better option. So, I bought a hobby box at my local card shop.
I always get excited for the Bowman release, and this year's set didn't disappoint. This is my first hobby box since the boxes I bought at the National last August. I am going to try to make it my last hobby box until the National in Chicago this August.
We'll see how that plan pans out.
Here are some of the base cards I pulled from the box of 24 packs with 10 cards per pack:
The card I will highlight here is the Manny Machado. Machado is a stud, plain and simple. The scary thing is that he is only 20 years old and he has a long playing career ahead of him. I liken Manny to A-Rod in his prime, non steroid days. He is mature beyond his years and has an incredible gift of poise and quiet leadership.
The O's let Mark Reynolds go to the Indians, and all he has done so far is hit 11 homers and 6 doubles and 32 RBIs. Should have kept him.
Pulled a Strasburg for my pc. Even though his cards aren't as hot, it is always a bit of a thrill for me to pull a Strasburg. It is not a thrill to pull Cody Ross, as he has been a "Phillies killer" over the years. He roughed the Phillies' pitchers up in the post season when he was on the giants.
I pulled some cool insert and parallel cards from the box, and I will show them to you all soon.
I've never been a big fan of Bowman. I think it stems from the fact that as a team collector, there have been some years that all look alike and are hard to sort. Still, looking forward to what you pulled.
ReplyDeleteI like that they stayed away from the black border again. My one fault with the design is the unfortunate placement of the team logo on several of the cards. It reminds me of the silver loin cloth from 1996 Donruss. Other than that, it seems like a fairly clean set.
