How could I not visit Wrigley Field when I was in Chicago? After all, the Cubs were home while I was there, playing the Dodgers. Needless to say I was very impressed and somewhat overwhelmed at the nostalgic feelings that popped up as soon as I saw the ballpark and all that surrounds it.
Having stayed in Rosemont, a suburb of Chicago, we had to take the bus to the ballpark. This was the first thing I saw when looking out the window: the iconic Wrigley Field sign.It doesn't get much better than seeing this sign. It's been featured in so many television shows, movies, etc. To see it in person was kind of surreal.
The official program stand right outside the stadium.
They had a trio playing festive music! It really added to the old time feel.
This was walking through to our seats. I kept looking around with my jaw dropped kind of in awe of everything.
These were our seats. You can tell this ballpark is very, very old by checking out the obstructed view with the pole being in the way!
I had to try the Chicago pizza. This was backwards from what we're all used to. The cheese was underneath the sauce. It was one of the largest pieces of pizza I've had. They don't skimp on food at Wrigley.
It was a beautiful day for a ballgame.
I got to see Yasiel Puig play in person for the first time. He had a homer and a double. Another bonus: it was Cubs headphones night!
A cool panoramic shot of the whole scene.
We left in the bottom of the 8th, and still had a hell of a time getting a cab. It certainly gets crowded!
This was the sports store across the street. I was surprised at how close to the stadium stores like this were.
Of course I had to take a picture of Flaco's! It reminded me of Joe.
Speaking of, Joe Flacco's wife gave birth to the couple's second son today, just an hour before game time! The word on the street (aka the Baltimore Sun) says that Joe went up to New Jersey immediately after the game to be with his wife and new son. It was an ugly win, but the Ravens pulled it out over the Browns today. The Phillies? They lost 11-2 against the Nationals. At least one of my teams won!
Back to Wrigley...I am so glad I got to experience a game there. It is so different from any other ballpark I have been to. Next up is Fenway, someday. Since the National Sports Collector's Convention is in Cleveland next year, I might try to see a game at Progressive (formerly Jacobs) Field. I hear that one is pretty nice, too.
I've never been to Wrigley, but I've been to Fenway a few times. It's the closest I ever felt to living in the 1920s.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo story. Wrigley and Fenway are both on my baseball bucket list.
ReplyDeleteWe stayed in Rosemont during the National too, and sat in the bleachers August 2nd to see Puig and the Dodgers.
