I can't resist a good football group break mixer. This was the case for a recent 15 box mixer I bought into at Layton Sports Cards. I just had a good "feeling" about buying into the break. There were several others that day and the last one of the night was the one I chose. It was a fifteen box mixer with several products and assorted years...2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
It all starts with getting a good team in the randomizer, or trading for a team that you want. The draw had me getting the St. Louis Rams. Not stellar, but not horrible either. Tavon Austin's stuff is pretty hot, so I was hoping to get a card or two of his. Luckily I did get one--a 2013 Topps Triple Threads jersey card, short printed to 50. I like the card.
2010 Plates and Patches brought some really good fortune for the me and the Rams. How about a Sam Bradford auto three color patch rookie card? I have to decide whether or not to get this one graded. I might do that this summer at the National. Yes, I am already thinking ahead.
I was also in another break of 2013 Leaf Trinity, my current favorite cards. This time I scored the Cleveland Indians. Clint Frazier, maybe? Frazier is pretty much the only player that the Indians have in the product, and his stuff is somewhat limited. It was all or nothing. Box after box was being opened, and Clint had yet to make an appearance. Until...
Boom!
Pure on card auto, #13/60. Here is another card that I might hold onto for awhile. These are so cool looking. They are thick and entirely see through. It looks like you are holding a perfectly rectangular piece of glass, although it is made of plastic.
Here is the back of the card, with the reminder that the card is solely licensed by the player. Take a look and see if you see even the name of a city on this card...you won't find it.2013 Topps Strata was a recent break as well. I scored the Kansas City Chiefs in the randomizer, but the only card I managed to get was this Knile Davis rookie patch auto. Davis had a few carries in the loss to the Colts, and could be the running back of the future for the Chiefs.
I'd trade the Knile Davis for a Ravens or (maybe) Eagles rookie patch auto if anyone wants to propose something.
Lots more breaks coming up this week and into the weekend. If you haven't tried group breaks and would like to, let me know and I will give you a 10% off code to use at Layton Sports Cards!
That Clint Frazier card is sick! Met him in the AZ Rookie League this past year. Super nice kid! He's also got some crazy red hair and a great autograph!
