Heeeeeerrrrrrre's Johnny!

Today was 2014 Leaf Metal Draft release day. If you aren't familiar with this product, it boasts the first auto cards of the brand new upcoming NFL draft class. You know, all those guys that we saw in the combine last week running and jumping and throwing and catching.

There are some big names in this year's draft: Manziel, Bortles, Bridgewater, Watkins, Evans, etc.  I had a feeling that this product was going to explode onto the collecting scene, and boy was I right.  Per Rich at Layton Sports Cards the cases are already selling at twenty two bucks above cost.  Apparently that is a big deal, especially since it is release day.

Rich busted a preview box of this product, which has 4 cards per box, and all 4 are autographs. They are sharp looking--shiny and bright with blue autos that are all mostly pretty clean, and all (or at least all I've seen) on card.  Rich got a major hit in the preview box: a 1/5 Johnny Manziel.  It's already on eBay and you can check it out here.

After watching several boxes opened (yeah, I was at work, but it's Friday!), and seeing lots of nice hits, I decided to get a box for myself.  I rarely buy hobby boxes unless it is a product I really like.  The last box I bought for myself prior to his one was Leaf Trinity baseball.  I guess I have a thing for Leaf products!

As I mentioned, there are 4 hits per box, all autos.  I couldn't tell you the first three hits that came out because I can't remember them due to the last one being so huge!

Check this out...
That is a blue parallel auto of Johnny Manziel numbered out of 50! I like Johnny's auto. It has a bit of a graffiti look to it when you look at the J.  Very cool and definitely not tiny (I'm looking at you Cordarell Patterson).

I am not sure what I am going to do with Mr. Manziel, but I am thinking of grading it.  Regardless, what a cool hit to get out of a personal hobby box on release day!  It's a great start to the weekend.  That, and the 7/10 Torii Hunter 2014 Topps acetate card I pulled out of a break skunk pack sent to me...pics later!
