Lee, Cliff.

Pictures and info from:

Disclaimer from Me

The Phillies have not won ANYTHING yet. I am not one of those fans who is going to brag and say that the World Series, or even the Playoffs are in the bag. Am I excited? Yes. Is this a dream come true pitching rotation? Yes.  Is anything a guarantee in professional sports?  No.

It's a long season.  The Phillies are going to be a very good team.  But, there are injuries, there are hitting slumps, there are errors made, and there are other very good teams in this league.

I am not sure if everyone is already sick of hearing about the Cliff Lee signing; I am sure for non-Philly fans it is less than thrilling stuff.  And for Yankee fans I am not sure what the reaction is.  Anyway, I'm not trying to be annoying posting this stuff, but damn am I happy, surprised, and optimistic regarding this signing, and the upcoming season.

Here are some tidbits from around the web...

This was posted back in October . Talk about foreshadowing!

Cliff Lee will be wearing #33, the number he wore with the Rangers.  Roy Halladay has #34 already.

NYC Covers...

It was stunning to many.

Roy Oswalt looks classic here.

From a fan, he made his wife breakfast this morning this way to tell her the news.

These are all over Philadelphia, different topics.

Nice Christmas gift for us fans.

Awesome.
Let's hope so.

Get used to hearing this phrase.

Amaro, Jr. as Philly's hero.

This stuff has been banned.

Four Aces (obvious one here)

Some good quotes from other blogs:

From the Zo Zone: Phillies players' cell phones rang and buzzed throughout the night as word spread.
"We're like, 'Whoa,'" Shane Victorino said. "I had heard about this mystery team. I was like, 'There's no way it's us.' Then I heard the Phillies were back in it. I texted Cliff last week and he never said anything. I texted him again today when everything started coming out. I'm like, 'Come on.' He finally texted me back, 'I'm back,' and I was like, 'Oh my goodness.' I thought there was no way we're bringing him back."

From Philly.com: Lee's deal with the Phillies comes exactly 362 days after Amaro traded the lefthander to the Mariners for three prospects on the same day that the team acquired Roy Halladay from the Toronto Blue Jays for three other prospects.

From espn.com: Lee's agreement carries the third-biggest guarantee ever for a pitcher, behind CC Sabathia's $161 million contract with the Yankees and Barry Zito's $126 million deal with the San Francisco Giants.

60 days until Spring Training.

  1. The one time I WANTED the Yankees to spend a lotta money! Grrrrrrrr

(The Jesus picture is hysterical though)

Oh, by the way, you'll be happy with the results of the group break.

  2. I hadn't seen a lot of those graphics yet. I'm continually impressed by how creative people are!

  3. The Jesus picture has some people up in arms. "Offensive" is the terminology. I don't think it is in bad taste, though.

  4. Regardless of the outcome (as sadly was the case for 2010) 2011 is going to be a great year. I can hardly wait to see the new season start!!
