What Happens to Kyle Drabek in Las Vegas Will Make Him Stay in Las Vegas

Kyle Drabek was optioned to AAA Las Vegas by the Blue Jays a few months back.  Hopefully he makes it up to the big leagues again soon to follow in the footsteps of his dad.  Although, having just come back from Las Vegas, it's not a bad place to be.  However, being there on a minor leaguer's salary probably has caused a few guys to go bankrupt.

Why do I collect Drabek? Well, he was a key piece in the deal that sent Roy Halladay to the Phillies. The Phillies drafted Drabek at number 18 in the first round of the 2006 draft. It all ties in for me.

Looking at his stats, it appears he will not be making it back to the big leagues soon. Drabek is sporting a (gulp) 6.55 ERA at AAA Las Vegas. In 55 innings pitched he has given up 88 hits (wow), 48 (40 earned) runs with 28 walks.  Not exactly big league material.

Maybe he is just working on his mechanics?

Regardless, I continue to collect him, and will. Now might be the time to scoop up some of his cards since I am pretty sure they are selling low. Here is one I got at a show recently.
And  just for good measure, here are three Zimmerman cards I picked up for the collection.
Tough, tough loss for Roy Halladay and the Phillies last night. He made two bad pitches which cost him the complete game loss in the 9th inning (5th time in his career).  He tied his all time best with 14 strikeouts, too. Just so unfortunate.  Cliff Lee takes the hill tonight.

  1. Kyle has certainly struggled in LV. The team asked him to stop throwing his cutter so much and to concentrate on pitching off his fastball more than he had been. It sounds like he's struggling with the adjustments.

That said, there have been rumblings that he may still get a September call up. The team wants very much for him to be part of the rotation next year & they might want to evaluate him again with the big club.

  2. Yeah, if memory serves correct he was having a pretty good run there for awhile. I remember one game where I think he was close to a no-hitter? It's amazing how quickly things can turn around. I hope the kid succeeds, I expect to see him back in the big leagues soon. The numbers certainly don't coincide with his talent level.
