The Things One Finds In a Dime Box

Hi all!  Yesterday I spent several hours at a monthly card show that I haven't been to in a few months.  Boy am I glad I went!  One dealer who normally has a great amount of game used and higher end cards went a bit different this time, and he brought tons of boxes of "decent" cards that he was selling 20 for $1, or fill a brown bag for $10.  Filling a brown bag got you around 300 or more cards, so that is exactly what I did.

As you all know the fun of the dime boxes is in the hunt.  Just what will you dig up?  Well these boxes were chock full of cards from various years, and every sport, right down to Major League Soccer.  I picked up lots of fun cards, but one of the best came when I happened upon a stack of 1997 Bowman Chrome cards.

As I was digging through the boxes, the dealer (who has become a friend when I am at the shows) was chatting it up with me about who knows what.  Well, I'm chatting and thumbing through cards and all of a sudden I stop, show him the one I came across, and said, "Hey by the way, thanks for this!"

He looked and his eyes widened and he smiled and shook his head, laughing a bit.
Yup, an R.A. Dickey chrome rookie card.

This books for around ten bucks, and it is in great shape too.  The dealer said that if anyone found it, he was glad it was me, which was cool.  The only think that would have made this pull sweeter would have been if it were a Roy Halladay 1997 Bowman Chrome rookie, as his first year card is from the same set as this one.

I have many more cards to show you guys, but I am having technical difficulties at the moment.  My laptop is on the fritz thanks to my cat who decided to hurl all over it (no I am not kidding), so I am on my work laptop...which I cannot figure out how to hook up to my scanner at home...blah blah blah.  So as soon as I either get a new laptop or figure out how to hook up this wireless scanner to this computer I will be showing off some other really cool finds from this 300 for ten dollar deal!

  3. That is an awesome dime box find. I've snagged multiple 1997 regular Bowman Halladays from dime boxes, but the Rickey is a really sweet get.
