Today I Purchased Baseball Cards

I had no better witty title.

I stopped at my local card shop today with the intention of just looking (right).  Well I did look for awhile and as it turns out I did exercise some serious self-restraint.  They had hobby boxes of Topps 206 and 2010 Topps Chrome on sale for 50 bucks.  I thought about it, pondered, thought about the two guaranteed autos or relics I'd pull out of the 206 box, and the endless shiny awesomeness in the box of chrome.  I thought about it, thought about it.......and then bought a pack of:

And yes, I paid $3.99.  I just bought a box of 206 back in December, and while I like the set, I want to wait for some 2011 sets to come out, or for the prices on the 2010s to go even lower.  I couldn't bring myself to spend fifty bucks on the chrome for just four cards per pack, even if they are shiny. At least not tonight.

I didn't expect to get anything great in this pack, but I figured I'd try my luck. 6 Heritage High Number cards, 2 Updates and Highlights card, and one stick of bubble gum. Do people still chew the gum in these packs? I get the nostalgia and all, but I cannot ever recall a "good" stick of gum coming out of a pack.  Here's some of what I got:
Highlights and Updates: Ryan Hanigan, and Daniel Bard Rookie Card (scan cut it off).

Some Heritage cards.  I almost got a Halladay, but it turned out to be a Holliday.  Not pictured: Chris Jakubauskas rookie (his "by the letter" cards would be hard to complete).

And then something shiny showed up, but not on the scan:

And it was numbered! 002/560

Not bad for four bucks.

In looking through the open hobby boxes filled with packs for sale, I thumbed through the samples of the cards and came upon this:

I wanted it, so the owner sold it to me for a dollar.  I think Bumgarner is going to do big things, based on his performance last season.

I also bought a signed 8x10 photo of Raven's kicker Billy Cundiff for only $9.99. Cundiff did a signing there a few weeks ago. He's had a great season and it'll look good framed.  Just another step in my quest to NOT START COLLECTING FOOTBALL STUFF...sigh.

And that's all for now, folks.
