What Do You Expect for a Dollar?

The dollar store comes through again! I have several dollar stores near me so when I have the time and I'm near one I sometimes stop in to see what kind of cards they have in stock.  If you've been reading the blog, you might remember that the dollar store is where I found packs of Goodwin Champions.  I bought them out of the Goodwins, in fact.

This time when I went I looked at the card display and saw hockey, basketball, soccer, and a bunch of character cards (like cartoons and stuff), and I also saw a display with 2010 Topps Update packs.  There are only 5 cards in the packs and no chance at inserts, so I always pass them by.  Plus, 2010 Topps are just so...2010 (ha).

Just when I thought I wasn't going to find anything, I looked down on the floor and saw a box of...

2008 Upper Deck Timeline!  6 cards per pack with an average of 2 insert cards per pack. For a dollar! I was sold, so I bought more:

I couldn't even remember what these cards looked like, so I stopped at five packs.  I figured I'd see what I pulled and if I liked the cards maybe I'd go and get more.

The first card I pulled out of pack #1 was:

Roy Halladay! How appropriate, right?  Then in a later pack, I pulled:

Another Roy Halladay! Damn, these packs are pretty awesome.  There are also throwback cards, die-cut cards and Yankee Stadium Legacy cards I pulled.

Check out the Evan Longoria throwback, front and back.  I have a feeling someone might want that thrown into a trade package!

So have you ever opened a pack of cards and you look at them one by one and all of them seem to be superstars?  I had that happen with one of these packs:

Wright, Hamilton, Pujols, Howard- one after another. Then a Yankee Stadium Legacy insert and a Magglio Ordonez insert.  Sweet pack.
If anyone is chasing this set or is interested in any cards let me know, and I'll see what I have.

Upcoming posts will include: Three more trades, a Super Value box break (150 cards for $5.00, you can guess how nice the pulls were), my Diamond Giveaway good fortune, and a 2011 Target value blaster four pack break.  Lots of good stuff coming up!

  1. The Dollar Tree stores around here are pretty much only repacks available now (I wonder how that happened??)

Any of your Yankee Stadium cards feature games against the Twins?
