So now we're gonna kick it old school...
Hey vintage fans, this post is for you. Here is where I start appreciating vintage more! And learning! This is the second part of the trade with Scott Crawford on Cards. The part with the vintage goodness.Above we have Juan Samuel, former Phillies second baseman. A cool thing is that he is now back with the club as a third base coach. It's fun to watch a past player coach current players. I can't imagine how much fun it must be for him.
I don't know who Dave Rader is (should I?). Baseball-Reference. com tells me he was a catcher. He only played for the Phillies for one season, 1979. Hey, I was born that year!!!
Ahh another card of Greg Luzinski. The one thing I notice about this card (besides Greg's rather large head) is the ugliness of the Phillies logo on the bottom. I just don't like it. Luzinski was the 11th pick in the first round of the 1968 amateur draft. I'm learning things!
This one tugs (ha) at the heart strings. Tug McGraw. The Tugger. What a great pitcher. He was a Met first, then came to the Phils in 1975. He died way too young, at the age of 59. You might have heard of his son, country megastar Tim McGraw. Yup, Tug is his dad.
Luis Aguayo was an infielder who played for the Phils, Yankees, and Indians in his career. He played for the Phils the longest, though. Nine years in total.
1986 isn't really vintage, right? But I had to include this one. It's Mike Schmidt for crying out loud. As a kid I used to watch his at bats hoping for a homer every time. Many times he did not disappoint. Schmidt was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995, getting 444/460 first ballot votes.
I wanted to show this Randy Lerch card simply because he actually does remind me of Lurch. He is really tall and has some of the longest legs I've ever seen on a dude.
This picture is a thing of beauty. We have the ugly Phillies logo. Warren's hat is perched on top of his curls. Brilliance! Warren also is sporting a huge chunk of (presumably) tobacco in his mouth. His eyes are mesmerizing, and his eyebrows magnificent. Vintage appreciation indeed!
All kidding aside, these are great cards, and nice additions to my (slim) Phillies vintage collection. Thanks again for the trade, Scott!
