Things on My Mind Regarding Collecting

I figured I'd make a list, because--why not.
  1. I really like this 2012 Allen & Ginter product, and it has been hard for me to refrain from buying any more than I already have. I am definitely going to buy at least one hobby box, and maybe two.  The black border framed cards really catch my eye.
  2. I have way, way too many cards. Too many commons, too much junk, just plain old too much.  And I don't know what to do with it all.
  3. I wish I had the motivation to create an entire room of my house dedicated to baseball cards and memorabilia.  Maybe someday.
  4. I would like it if there was somewhere online where I could export a list of every card ever made for the players in my player collections.  This would be helpful to figure out just how many cards I have of the player, and what my future collecting goals for each player are. I know Beckett has a checklist, but to the best of my knowledge you cannot export the information.
  5. Numbers 2, 3, and 4 all point to me needing to find a better way to organize my collection.
  6. I've been procrastinating on my NSCC game plan.
  7. What the heck am I going to have the 12 autographs I get signed? I don't have 8x10 pictures of any of the VIPs, and I don't know if they are something I want to spend money on.  Maybe I can sell the tickets?
  8. What am I going to bring to carry all my show loot?  I've seen backpacks, rolling suitcases, duffle bags.  I need something big enough to hold everything, yet still easy to carry or roll.
  9. Besides the Ginter box(es), what other hobby boxes am I going to buy?
  10. What cards am I going to bring to trade at the show?
  11. How much money am I going to bring to the show?
I'll stop there for now.  I could probably take each one of these 11 items and do individual posts on each one, and that is something I might do in the days ahead.

I am probably over analyzing all of this, but these are things that have been floating around my mind when I think of the big show coming up.  I guess it seems a bit overwhelming and I want to make sure I do it right...

  1. You can't export out of Beckett but you can set to 250 per page then copy and paste special as a text into excel.

If you want to get rid of extra Red Sox then...

    1. Do you want Red Sox commons too? I don't want to send you junk...

  2. Zistle allows you to export. It is also a good way to organize your collection.

    1. Thanks, I forgot about Zistle. I should get my act together and use it to organize my cards.

    2. Zistle is still a work in progress. User supported, so if you have cards that aren't yet in their database you can add them. I try to add some cards, or images, every once in a while.

  3. I feel your pain. I would love to reduce my cards by the tens of thousands, but it takes all kinds of time I don't have enough of, yet I can't just bring myself to indiscriminately give it all away.

I've been pondering the "what do I carry it in question" lately. Normally I'd run some stuff out to my car and head back to the show, but I don't know if that'll be an option at the National.

  4. I wonder if they have lockers or something of the like for you VIP's. Parking is not very close, but access to the garages will be OK enough to run to the car.

Rolling suitcases are dorky. Backpacks are too small and sooo High School. But whatever you do, don't use reusable grocery bags, that's very, very wrong.

The unfortunate side to the VIP graphs is that you don't know who you have. Baseballs would be cool and easy to tote, but then you would get all football guys. A lot of people were trading last year to get the players/sports they wanted.

It was a great time two years ago and hopefully will be awesome this year too. Maybe I will see you there.

  5. i've done what adam suggests for my garvey pc every year or so for the past several years. would really be nice if the data could just be exported.

oh, and i could take some of your extra dodgers if you take some phillies off of my hands...
