Actually no I haven't, I've just been thinking about them off and on this morning while browsing Check Out My Cards, Sportslots, and eBay. So I guess it's all in how you define, "lately."
Anyway, I digress.
With my Roy Halladay collection, I consider every serial numbered card to be a 1/1 of sorts. I never really thought twice about this, but I have been realizing that many people do not share this line of thinking. Even though the cards look the same, the different serial number on each makes them unique to me, thus adding unique cards to my Halladay player collection. This is the thought behind me trying to collect as many 2011 Halladay Triple Thread base cards as possible.
I recognize that this line of thinking makes it virtually impossible to be able to collect every single card of the player in a collection, but to me the chase makes collecting the player more fun. I like trying to do the impossible. I'm not naive enough to believe that I will even come close to collecting all 1500 2011 Triple Thread base cards, but it makes finding one when thumbing through a box at a card show all the more exciting. It's kind of like finding a needle in a haystack, except the needle is cardboard in the shape of a rectangle with a baseball player on it.
So, am I semi-unique in this kind of thinking? For those of you who have player collections, do you consider all serial numbered cards of a player to be unique, or are you content with just one card from each set?
Makes sense to me.

Just one is all I need. I'd go crazy buying more and more cards if I didn't limit it.
ReplyDeleteI only need one, but I've been where you are. I'll post about it sometime. It's a fun distraction and more importantly, it's what makes you happy so I say go for it!
ReplyDeleteI only need one, but if I come across another at a cheap price, I won't hesitate to pick it up and keep it in the collection. Same thing with duplicate auto's and relic's, serial numbered or not. While duplicate base cards are copies of each other, the relics or autographs are different on each card, so I'll collect multiples. But I won't pay a lot of money for one I already have.
