Emotional Shopping at Its Finest

When people get emotional, they tend to turn to things that are comforting.

Some people turn to religion for solace.

Some people turn to shopping for solace.

Some people turn to food for solace.

Some people simply run away to find a happy place.

Me?  I buy baseball cards.

Roy retired, and I went to Check Out My Cards to--well, check out some of Roy's cards that were available.  On the day he retired from baseball I bought nine serial numbered cards and also a rookie, just because I wanted to.  It was entirely impulsive.

I bought a card from when he came into the league in 1997, and I bought his most recent card at the time, 2013 Topps Triple Threads.
2010 Bowman Platinum gold, #/539; 2009 UD Ultimate Collection, #/599, and 2013 Bowman blue border, #/500 start us off.
Two more for the collection of 2011 Topps Triple Threads base, #/1500 of course.  That brings the grand total in my collection to 41/1500 base cards of Roy from 2011 Topps Triple Threads!  Also shown is a 2013 Gypsy Queen blue border #/499.
I bought a 1997 Bowman Roy rookie just because I thought it was a cool thing to do on the day he retired! I have several of these, but just one Chrome rookie.  A purchase I'd love to make is the international version of this card--that is a bit pricey and also a little hard to find at times.
From the past to the present.  Here are three of Roy's most recent cards.  Sandwiched between two 2013 Topps Triple Threads purple cards #/650 is a 2013 Topps Museum Collection #/424.  Pretty looking cards if I do say so myself.

Writing this post makes me want to go look to see what other Roy cards are available...I'm also interested to see what his retirement announcement will do to his card values, which are relatively low.

  1. If they stay low, I know a certain someone that will be going very hungry from using their grocery budget at COMC.

  2. Should've gone all out and binged ate, drank and bought cards all at the same time.
