Fun fact! The Phillies are almost in the cellar of all of baseball for offense. They are only ahead of one team: the Pirates. The Pirates beat the Phillies in two out of three games to start the season.
Awesome.
So, Brian at Pirates Treasure Room feels my pain. He and I traded, and if you click the link it will take you to the trade post that he did about what I sent him. Here is some of what he sent me.
Mike Schmidt could really help the Phillies offense right now. Schmitty, of course, played third base. The Phillies current third baseman is Placido Polanco, who has eight extra base hits in his last 94 at bats, going back to last season.Jimmy Rollins has been hitting third for the Phillies, and he has bunted or attempted to bunt several times. Just what a three hole hitter should do, right? Wrong.
Oh, hello Roy. Of course blog hero Roy Halladay is the shining beacon of light in the storm. The Phillies have three wins, and Halladay has recorded a win in two of them.
Hunter Pence has been hitting for crap. He has one homerun, a few extra base hits, but many strikeouts. Also, he is goofy.
Phillies fans are still happy to see fan favorite Jim Thome back in Phillies colors, but he hasn't done squat for us as a pinch hitter so far. I believe he is hitless. Maybe a walk or two, but other than that zero production.
Cliff Lee pitched yesterday and too the loss to the Mets. The Mets, who are in first second place in the NL East, with only two losses. I did type that correctly.
And now on to greener pastures. Stephen Strasburg has looked every bit the phenom he was hyped to be back in 2010. This kid can pitch.
I love this patch card, old versus new. I love that Brian sent this because it is one I do not have for my Strasburg PC. Also, the Nats are in first place. I stick by my preseason prediction that the Nats will finish in second place in the NL East.
A Ravens Troy Smith jersey card to add to the Ravens binder was also in the package.
And finally, a Geoff Jenkins bat card rounds it all out.
Thanks for the trade, Brian. You all should go check out Pirates Treasure Room if you haven't already. Brian runs a great blog. Arrrgh.
I'm glad you liked everything I sent your way and I completely agree about Hunter Pence being goofy. I wonder what the scouts said about him prior to being drafted. He's an outfielder that throws the ball in side armed, only wears one batting glove, and always chokes up on the bat. Not to mention he sometimes looks like he runs like an ostrich. Strange dude, but very fun to watch and root for.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to root for the Bucs all season long to win some free cards that could be used as trade bait.
