The date: May 25, 2011
The venue: Citizen's Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
The teams: Cincinnati Reds vs. Philadelphia Phillies
What makes this epic: The game went 19 innings! It lasted six hours and eleven minutes. The Phillies used 9 pitchers, but it was Roy Halladay who started the game. He went seven innings, giving up 11 hits and three earned runs. The game went into extra innings tied 4-4. Then things got really interesting.
Journeyman Wilson Valdez wound up being the winning pitcher of record, becoming the first player since Babe Ruth in 1921 to start a game in the field and wind up the winning pitcher.
Commemorative post here.
Valdez's win prompted me to purchase this card of him:
He has a terrible auto, but the card was only three bucks. It had to go in the Phillies "special" card binder.
