You Can't Predict Baseball

The Phillies won their third game in a row tonight behind a great performance by Kyle Kendrick, who is filling in for Vance Worley while he is getting his elbow in order.

When Kyle pitches Philly fans don't expect too much, since he has failed to deliver one too many times.  His outings are usually five or six inning affairs, usually five or more hits, and three or more runs.

That's why we were all pleasantly surprised that Kyle Kendrick threw a complete game shutout in a visiting park against the reigning World Champion Cardinals.  Equally interesting is that he is the second Phillies pitcher this season to throw a complete game shutout with less than 100 pitches.

Who is is the other pitcher?

Well, it's not Roy Halladay.

It's not Cliff Lee (who has yet to get a win!).

It's not Cole Hamels.

It's Joe Blanton.

  1. Since the Cardinals' "local" package is on Fox Sports Midwest and I don't have cable/satellite, last night's nationally televised game was one of the few I get to watch on TV this year. At least I got to see an impressive pitching performance; too bad it wasn't for our side. He earned that victory.
